I guess that the story about the ‘quarrel’ between Osaze Odemwingie (the football star) and Peter Okoye (the PSquare music star) is already a stale news. But, some lessons can be drawn from it.
The story went that Peter ‘attacked’ Osaze for speaking ‘bad’ about his lottery business. Peter has a gambling outfit that he promoted with a video that Osaze was not happy with; he expressed his concern, and Peter was furious.
Osaze explained why he had to raise concern.
According to him, Peter put out a video about a boy who told him that he took his sick mother’s last money without her knowledge to play lottery; and he won. Osaze was not happy with the fact that Peter did not reprimand the boy for taking the mother’s money without permission. He saw it as stealing.
Now, there once live a brother and a sister; the man was rich while the sister was not. They were so close that the man took care of most of her bills, her husband’s bills and all her children’s bills; which included school fees and house rents. He also had three of his sister’s children living with him.
One day, one of his sister’s children took his money without his knowledge, with an intention of travelling to Europe.
When the man reported the matter to his sister (the boy’s mother), he got a response from his sister and some other kinsmen that since the boy was using it for a good thing, the man should forget about it. It created a big rift so much that the man withdrew all his support for his sister; and she never remain the same!
Most time, people often look at the gains that a particular action will bring, but fail to look closely at the negative impact that such actions brew.
By paying attention to details like Osaze, one should know that theft come in different forms and shapes; and the earlier they are identified and curbed, the better the society will be.
Stealing involves gaining possessions of what belongs to another without permission or right. People practice different forms of it; and may build on it until it send them to jail or grave. One who keep property that is found without reporting it, evade taxes, carryout dishonest business practices, steal from employer, refuse to pay debt, looting, encouraging any form of stealing, and so on, are involve in stealing.
Whether it is been done to one’s parents, brothers, sisters or friends is immaterial; as nobody will like to be a victim of all these. Hence as it is often said, don’t do to others what you don’t want others to do to you.
