GREED!

Check out this excerpt from one of James Hadley Chase’s novels:

“..Have you ever heard how they catch monkeys in Brazil, Julie? . . . Let me tell you. They put a nut in a bottle, and tie the bottle to a tree. The monkey grasps the nut, but the neck of the bottle is too narrow for the monkey to withdraw its paw and the nut. You would think the monkey would let go of the nut and escape, wouldn’t you? But it never does. It is so greedy it never releases the nut and is always captured.…”

(Source: The Paw in the Bottle by James Hadley Chase).

Today, the news is filled with people and sometimes organisations’ unethical and lawless actions that may be seen to have been driven by greed.

Probably; for security, wealth, power, fame, and so on; greed is often seen generally as the insatiable desire to take more than one’s fair share; or to have something at all cost, irrespective of the situation, which could be danger, violation of the law, and so on.

Though, some say that greed has helped us to survive; and that without greed, there won’t be motivation to carryout innovation.

But, whichever perspective we view it from, we should know when to withdraw our hands from the bottle leaving back what we crave for, or to stop the urge….

The Bible says we should guard ourselves against greed, we should not give room for it to run us; since life does not consist in abundance of our possessions.
