Good Old Days!

A Jamaican reggae song caught my attention lately; and I remembered when I was in school, I sent a message to a television station, on why Peter Tosh’s songs were not featured in their reggae program. I got commendation by the TV station for been observant.

This song is done by Peter Tosh; entitled, “dem ma fe get a beatin”.

Part of the lyrics read thus….

“I can't stand this no longer, the wicked get stronger,

…every time the good open his mouth, the bad say "You must be mad!"

The wicked must get a beating.”

Some scholars posited that most humans have selfish nature; hence, normally; human nature is perpetually evil; and it is expected that they may not always behave morally. Even the preacher in the Bible said that the hearts of people are full of evil; and madness exist in their hearts....But in spite of these assertions, it is widely believed that man used to have better days.

The society, when talking about the rate of wickedness in the world, will wish for the good old days! One may ask how the folks ‘in the good old days’ were doing it, that makes those days better.

In our world today, the 'good guys' generally feel that they may be disadvantaged for correcting a wrong in the face of a wicked world; thus, one can say that man has given room for selfishness to overtake him.

The Bible preacher said that, “when lawlessness is not punished quickly, people feel it is safe to do wrong". Thus, it can be concluded that, it is humans that make days better; and wishing for better days in inaction makes the wicked stronger!

It is man's responsibility to do what is right always; and to make sure that those responsible to him do what is right.

It should thus be noted that, no matter whose ox is gored; all forms of lawlessness must be condemned; and all forms of goodness must be upheld. Such should start from our homes, offices, play-grounds, farms, market-places, churches, mosques, palaces; and so on.

As it was stated that wisdom is better than weapons of war; taking responsibility of ensuring that good prevail in one's sphere will generate the society beating for the wicked; which will enshrine the good old days!
